7th Annual Santero
Market
October 4-5,
2008
In the late 17th and early 18th
centuries a unique form of folk art developed in the American
southwest in the region that is now northern New Mexico and southern Colorado. The “Santero” tradition
evolved as the need for religious images increased and imported
images dwindled. To
make due, untrained artists created their own folk style images
based on traditional Spanish examples. It is this legacy that
today’s Santeros strive to
continue.....
San Felipe de Neri Parish invites you to our
7th Annual Santero
Market in Albuquerque’s
Old
Town on October
4-5, 2008. The Santero
Market is an entertaining and fun filled public event held for the
past six years, coinciding with the opening weekend of the
Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta.
The market will feature a variety of Spanish Colonial Art
from approximately 40 artists from throughout New Mexico
and the Southwest.
Market hours for both Saturday and Sunday are 8 am – 4
pm. The public is
invited to attend this religious art, open air market, with ongoing
entertainment and food throughout the entire
weekend.
New Mexican & Southwest artists are invited to be a
part of this juried fine art show. Interested artists may
submit their applications for consideration to Santero Market
Committee, no later than August 30, 2008, to San Felipe de Neri
